EDF Group
The EDF Group is a key player in the energy transition, as an integrated energy operator engaged in all aspects of the energy business: power generation, distribution, trading, energy sales and energy services.
The Group is a world leader in low-carbon energy, with a low carbon output of 434TWh, a diverse generation mix based mainly on nuclear and renewable energy (including hydropower). It is also investing in new technologies to support the energy transition.
EDF’s raison d’être is to build a net zero energy future with electricity and innovative solutions and services,to help save the planet and drive well-being and economic development.
The Group supplies energy and services to approximately 40.9 million customers (1) and generated consolidated sales of €139.7 billion in 2023.
EDF is the world’s largest nuclear power plant operator with a fleet of 67 reactors, including 56 in France. The Group has a full range of competences in nuclear energy, from design, through construction, operation and dismantling of nuclear power plants, as well as the production of nuclear fuel. EDF is also the only technology supplier that has built, is currently building and has confirmed orders for the construction of large-scale nuclear reactors of the latest generation III+ in Europe, fully based on the European ( including Polish) industries.
In October 2021, EDF submitted a preliminary offer to the Polish government for the design, supply and construction of four to six EPR reactors in Poland, in two or three locations, with a total installed capacity of 6.6 to 9.9 GWe. This offer is consistent with the expectations of the Polish authorities regarding the schedule, budget, integrated nature of the offer, financing and long-term strategic partnership. EDF maintains its offer for the construction of the second power plant under the Polish Nuclear Power Programme (PPEJ).
The EDF Group is also developing the NUWARD SMR reactor technology (340 MWe). Construction of the first SMR NUWARD reactor is expected to start in 2030. In January 2023 EDF signed a cooperation agreement with the Polish company Respect Energy regarding the development of nuclear energy projects in Poland based on the NUWARD SMR technology.
